After much prayer and in consultation with the leadership of the congregation I have decided to cancel all services this Sunday, March 15, 2020. We do this out of an abundance of caution and a desire to follow in the Wesleyan mandate to “do no harm.” And I believe that part of doing “no harm” is helping to prevent the spread of any illness in our community. As you know, a large percentage of the people in our congregation are those that are considered especially vulnerable to COVID-19 due to their age or other underlying conditions, and because of this, I feel that caution is warranted.
The Administrative Board of Lone Star UMC will be meeting on March 15 at 5:00 P.M. and plans for how to proceed in the days and weeks to come will be established then. Once these plans are in place, we will communicate them to you as soon as possible. In this time of uncertainty I invite you to remember the words of our Lord.
33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 (NIV)
With this promise in your heart, I invite you to keep our church in your prayers in the coming days. I also ask that you lift in prayer all those that are suffering and those that are working tirelessly to help others in need. If you need me for any reason, please feel free to reach out to me by calling or texting me at (601) 341-8581.
In Christ,
Rev. James Walters
